Installation problem with 5.12: complains about mysql version

Posté par rod le 2 jan. 2006, modifié par Christian Loubechine le 11 mar. 2009, avec Bernard Paques

An updated release 5.12.1 has been uploaded today, which should fix this issue, among others.

Can you check [file=32] and provide (supposedly positive) feed-back?

I wish you a very Happy 2006 Year with YACS.

Better support for different / and /yacs pages

Posté par rod le 2 sep. 2007, avec Bernard Paques

My need is to have a "site" home page at / and a "yacs" homepage at /yacs. I could use better support to make those truly distinct, e.g., for Page::top_focus()
Rod, the function pages::top_focus() has been modified as per your suggestion, and your name has been added to the list of authors of YACS. This will be reflected in next release.

Yes, that solved it. My skin was from an old version, the 7.6.3 skin doesn't have the problem...I ended up using that instead.

Time for a Security forum topic?

Posté par rod le 7 juin 2007

I've posted a couple security related issues this week, maybe it's time for a yacs security thread?

My thought was to have a push mechanism, e.g., an email watch on a specific thread, that would notify me of new security issues and resolutions.

Rss will do for now, though.

Embed tags in yacs articles? [Résolu]

With YACS, only associates can use such HTML tags in page, but it possible to do it.

A yacs page linked to a DailyMotion video

YACS features several players automatically, notably one for MP3 files, and another one for Flash videos (.FLV files). There is also a code to render a Flash animation directly in page.

Annoying attack vector: users/edit.php, yacs threat?

Posté par rod le 7 juin 2007

I started running awstats on my yacs based site and I'm seeing a ton of hits on users/edit.php...is it a security threat?

You are right, and hackers are certainly attempting to attack YACS, looking for vulnerabilities. Please send me by e-mail a list of most attacked scripts, and I will have a specific review of these, just to check if we could raise the bar in some areas.

No panic here, YACS has been already attacked in the past, and is benefiting from a strong architecture. We have learnt from experience that good security results from continuous efforts and vigilance. Thank you for your contributions in this area.

A YACS wiki is not a wiki

Missing basic wiki functionality

Bernard:

Based on schema I've worked on, correct backward referencing is always hard.

Recently, I've been using the commercial wiki product from Atlassian called Confluence.

Confluence has 2 features that really set it apart, and justify real $s for the product. First is the backward link consistency, as mentioned previously.

The other is edit journaling. As you type in the wiki page form, Confluence is journaling your edits up to the server (xmlhttprequest, aka, ajax, I'm assuming). Have you ever started a form and switched to email, broke for dinner, and accidentally closed the window when you didn't mean to?

Well, with Confluence the next time you visit or edit that page, you're alerted that there's an unfinished edit on the page and would you like to resume those edits or discard them. I've come back to pages I forgot I was editing 6 months ago and had it remember!

Cool beans, IMHO.

On the other hand, Confluence does not have any forum or maillist features, and those turn out to be really valuable when collaborating, to created a permanently logged multi threaded discussion. (Page comments don't have the threaded structure and don't cut it for, say, collaborative design docs on a wiki.)

Home page error in 7.1 beta

VLC actually starts and receives from frames, but then the video stops, because of missing subsequent frames. Probably a lack of bandwidth end-to-end...

Trackback: Why?

Posté par rod le 23 fév. 2006, avec Bernard Paques

Could someone give a quick/clear description of what trackbacks are good for, and why/when I would want to use the feature.
Trackback is just a technical way to comment remotely some web page, and to have this web page linked to your comment.

Parse links when publishing doesn't seem quite right

Posté par rod le 21 fév. 2006, avec Bernard Paques

I'm confused (or perhaps there's a bug) about what happens when links are parsed upon publishing an article.

3 contributions, dont :

Rod: I confirm that YACS looks for specific prefix to consider a string as a link. Also, if you bracket some link with [link]...[/link], YACS will consider it as a local reference if it has no prefix.

Therefore, please use fully qualified links to external links where applicable.
