Raymond, Danfrom Brisbane, Australia 21 posts | Bernard, Its a beauty! Still shakin it down but seems to do all I need. Will let you know how it goes. But congrats for another fine update!!! Would appreciate some words on how to use the mind maps as would like to implement those. We use mind manager and have now installed free mind as well. Dan |
| Mark 16 posts | Hi Bernard, Quick question. How does including the new GPL software affect the LGPK licensing? I've heard of problems where something that is LGPL is turned into GPL if GPL software is included in the core product. Thanks. |
Bernard Paquesfrom nearby-an-airport Associate, 8408 posts | Mark: Good question indeed. LGPL has been selected just because of the freedom given to software developers in using source files. BSD would have been another (appealing) option. With GPL there are more constraints. These have to be carefully evaluated. Your guess is welcome, of course.

First of all, thank you for your interest in this feature. I'm very pleased to help, as far as I can. There's a lot to say about the heuristic approach and work. I do use it in many situations, from brainstorming to project management, including educational analysis. These words are about the "what" not about the "how". I understand that "you" (you say "we") already use Mind Manager. If so, I suppose you control the "what for" process, am I right ? In that case your difficulties are with "how" utilise FreeMind, and specially in the yacs context. Let me know precisly your requests, I would do my best to help. Is there an easy way to strip out any non LGPL code in the latest version? Prior to the latest version has there been non LGPL code used? Thanks, Mark |

Mark: To answer your question I have checked every piece of external software included with YACS, and all have been put together in the directory included, except the Freemind applet. Everything else is the core of YACS, and is LGPL. Also, for next release I will reduce the dependancy of YACS to every external library, meaning you will be free to remove them if this is your wish. More details: * Freemind applet is GPL The Java applet has been saved in files/plugins/freemindbrowser.jar.In the next release it will be moved to included/browser.* FPDF library, used to convert pages to PDF files http://www.fpdf.org/en/FAQ.php#1 "FPDF is Freeware (it is stated at the beginning of the source file). There is no usage restriction. You may embed it freely in your application (commercial or not), with or without modification. You may redistribute it, too." All files used from the FPDF distribution have been put in included/.* Getid3 library, used to parse multimedia files http://getid3.sourceforge.net/source/readme.txt "This code is released under the GNU GPL" All files used from the getid3 archive have been put in included/getid3.* PHP-PDB library, used to convert pages to Palm files "Licensed under the GNU LGPL software license." Files have been put in included.
