i've followed the url you provied up there.

it seems your're path to root is wrong in config.

via FTP, get file /parameters/control.include.php

open it, check value 'url_to_root'

should be '/yacs/'

Alexis Raimbault: Thanks for the tip. I edited this value and switched the server on again. How can I now check if the upgrade is successful. Also I can´t switch between the various tabs (Overview / Content / Configuration / System)in control panel. I've tried multiple skins/themes.

Thanks again,

Jan

it seems that some files are missing, maybe because crash during updrade.

the file /yacs/included/browser/library.js is missing, that's why tabs doesn't works.

by disabaling css on your page "/control", i can check that yacs is 9.5beta31.8

but it's difficult to check if some files are missing here or there, so we don't know if the updrade is finished or not.

Maybe you can decompress yacs' archive locally on your computer, then upload via FTP all the files, without overwriting existing files. It should bring back missing files.

I might add to Alexis's excellent suggestions that you might get away with uploading files one by one to your server, if your hosting service supports it.

At Bluehost, where I am hosted, I can upload by FTP the compressed archive and have it uncompressed directly by the hosting server.

If this is available to you, you might want to try either of these two options (or one after the other, if the first one does not work) before uploading uncompressed files one by one in their appropriate place in the site structure:

  1. upload the archive to /inbox/yacs and go to this URL : http://w ww.yoursite.com/scripts/ and click the link to the archive
  2. alternatively, upload the archive to /scripts/staging and, using your webhosting access (maybe CPanel), decompress it, then go to this URL http://w ww. yoursite.com/scripts/update.php and continue from there
Notice : the URL below assume your Yacs installation is at the root of your site. If you have installed it in a directory called yacs (for example), the URL have to be adjusted like this : http://w ww.yoursite.com/yacs/scripts/update.php

One more thing : you might have to run the updating process twice to make sure everything is allright because, in some instances, some scripts may not execute on the first run (if they require execution of another script first, which is accomplished in the first run).

Good luck!

Alain Lesage :

well if jan has a standard FTP soft, he can answer "no to all" for overwriting without clicking one by one

Alexis Raimbault : You're right, but if an existing file is corrupted, wouldn't that defeat the purpose?

And uploading the uncompressed archive without "skipping" existing files is certainly muuuuch longer than the above two suggestions, no?

I certainly would appreciate your advise on this, because you have much more experience than me in these matters.

Alain Lesage :

right ! if Jan has corrupted files my way up there will not correct them.

But has the first part of the upgrade was ok, I guess existing files are ok. Maybe those missing come from the "unique execution scripts", the last part of updating process?

I remember one time I was missing the js files for the calendar to input a date. Updates trough yacs didn't bring it so i did that way with FTP.

if he can do that form he's hosting console it would be faster of course.

If FTP transfert try doesn't work, Jan could also install a new yac in a new directory, import database, then copy images, files and skin. This may be explained in documentation.

"much more experience" hum hum...

Alexis Raimbault:OK I´m sure all files are as should but I expect a problem with control.include.php as I have no theme showing.

Can you have another look?

btw the original reason for upgrading was that the collection/ slide show feature did not display the pictures in correct order.

Now this feature doesn´t work at all.

The order issue is still not solved it seems.

Viewing picture by picture still works still.

Jan, I suspect that your configuration is still looking for www.yetanothercommunitysystem.com instead of www.yacs.fr and that this has corrupted many files during the update.

Can you please download the last archive instead, explode it at your hard drive, and push files with FTP to your server ? This should fix at least the rendering issue with CSS.

Bernard Paques:Hello Bernard, for the initial upgrade I´ve uploaded the tgz file to YACS from my local machine. I did this a second time after the crash and I uploaded the exploded files through FTP afterwards.

I had the skin back after the initial upgrade and fix as suggested by Alexis.

Things went wrong again after the completion of the upgrade.

Jan: If you look, within FF, at the source code for your home page, and then look at the content of the CSS, you will see that the file has been corrupted. Same for the main Javascript library, which is also corrupted. You should push directly all files from the archive directly into running directories, to overwrite non PHP files with correct content.

" OK I´m sure all files are as should "

As bernard shows it seems not ! How did you do that FTP transfert ? your server were in better state just after modifing control.include.php

  • take /skins/digital/digital.css form the archive and overwrite it on /skins/digital/digital.css of your server.
  • same with /included/browser/library.js

digital.css should be about 49Ko, not 1ko
library.js is arround 182Ko.

OK. Will do as suggested.

Not sure what has gone wrong with the FTP.

OK. Uploaded none PHP files and then some.

Things seem to be back to normal as far as I can see.

I also want to upgrade another instance that runs 8.11beta30.

Is there any special precautions I should take to avoid similar problems?

Congratulation, that's look better !

One thing strange is that we still can browse into your folders. I presume Bernard will tell you more.

Indeed in some folders you can just browse around.
